Induction Cooktop Buying Guide – Philips HD4994, Prestige, Pigeon, Inalsa: Wattage, Socket, Pans, Prices in Chandigarh

Every Chandigarh kitchen should have an induction cooktop in the cupboard for the morning the cylinder runs out, and more and more households use one every day for tea, dal and the pressure cooker because it is faster than gas and has no flame. These are the induction cooktops at New Jaspal Electricals with today's prices.

Prestige, Pigeon, Inalsa
Prestige PIC 20 Neo 1600 W – ₹1,800 – 1600 W, Indian menu presets, runs on a 6 A socket.
Prestige Xpress 1200 W – ₹1,650 – 1200 W; slow but safe on any socket, good for a bedsit.
Pigeon Acer Plus 1800 W (feather touch) – ₹1,650 – 1800 W feather-touch; the best value here.
Pigeon Prime (push button) – ₹1,195 – push buttons, 1800 W, the lowest price in the shop.
Inalsa Krevia induction – ₹1,830 – Inalsa's 2000 W cooktop.
Wattage and your socket
1200–1600 W cooktops run on a normal 6 A socket. 1800–2100 W units draw 8–9 A and need a 16 A socket – the geyser or AC type – or they will heat the plug. If you plan daily cooking, get a 16 A point put in; if it is a backup for tea and Maggi, a 1600 W on a 6 A socket is fine.
Which pans work
Any pan a magnet sticks to: steel, cast iron, most pressure cookers and kadhais sold today. Aluminium, copper and glass do not, and a pan with a warped base will keep beeping. A 'induction base' tawa or kadhai costs ₹300–600 and is worth buying with the cooktop.
Running cost
A 2000 W unit at full power uses two units an hour, but it rarely runs at full power – a dal takes about half a unit. One unit of electricity cooks roughly what 60–70 g of LPG does, so daily cost is similar to gas; the saving is time, and the kitchen stays cooler.
Spares
The parts that fail are the glass top (dropped kadhai) and the control PCB (voltage spike). We keep both for the Philips models and most Prestige/Pigeon, plus the cooling fan, so a cooktop is repairable for a fraction of its price.
