Scale – the Chandigarh problem
Our tap water is hard, so a kettle greys with scale in a month and the element overheats and trips. Once a month, half fill with a 50:50 water-and-vinegar mix, boil, leave 30 minutes, rinse twice. A concealed-element kettle (every Philips here) cleans in seconds; an exposed-coil one needs a brush. If a kettle has stopped cutting off or the switch has gone, we keep the Philips lids, switches and thermostats – a ₹200 repair instead of a new kettle.
